The Tamale High Court has ordered a rerun of the parliamentary election in the Kpandai constituency, directing the Electoral Commission to conduct fresh polls within 30 days.

The ruling, delivered by His Lordship Emmanuel Brew Plange, follows a petition filed by the National Democratic Congress (NDC) parliamentary candidate, Daniel Nsala Wakpal, challenging the declaration of Matthew Nyindam as the Member of Parliament–elect for Kpandai.

Wakpal argued that the December 7, 2024 parliamentary election was fraught with irregularities. He cited inconsistencies in Pink Sheets (Form 8A) from 41 out of 152 polling stations and asked the court to nullify results from only those affected polling centers.

However, in delivering his verdict, Justice Brew Plange ruled that the irregularities identified were significant enough to affect the integrity of the entire electoral process in the constituency. He therefore ordered a complete rerun of the parliamentary election in Kpandai rather than the partial annulment sought by the petitioner.

Meanwhile, lawyers for the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) candidate, Sylvester Isang, have filed an appeal against the decision, along with an application for a stay of execution pending the outcome of the appeal. With legal processes now underway and the Electoral Commission under a 30-day deadline, the future of the Kpandai parliamentary seat remains uncertain as both political parties brace for the next phase of the electoral contest.
