The Deputy Director-General of the Ghana Education Service, GES, Professor Mrs. Smile Dzisi, has called on old students of various schools across the country to give back to their former school not only in financial terms, but also through their time, expertise, mentorship, and networks.

Speaking at the 82nd Anniversary Speech and Prize-Giving Day of the Ghana Secondary School, GHANASS in Koforidua, hosted by the 2000 Year Group, Professor Dzisi emphasized the need for alumni to help guide the current generation of students, especially those in senior high schools.

The event was held under the theme, “Cultivating Excellence, 21st Century Skills, and National Values among Students, the Role of Stakeholders”. Professor Dzisi urged former students to support learners by opening doors and sharing their experiences.

She added that one’s success is incomplete if it is not connected to the success of those coming behind you. She noted that the 21st century is driven not only by knowledge but also by practical, adaptable, and innovative skills, and encouraged students to seize the opportunities available to them.

During the ceremony, a Visual Arts Student, Master Joshua Sagoe, was recognized for developing an artificial intelligence, AI software designed to assist teachers and students in navigating the new standards-based curriculum.

The Headmistress of GHANASS, Mrs. Diana Akosua Mintah, also expressed gratitude to the government for providing the school with a new dining hall, which was constructed but had remained abandoned since 2015.
