Police in the Upper West Region arrested nine suspects following a violent attack on officers at Saawie in the Jirapa Municipality on Friday, December 5, 2025. A group of about 30 youth reportedly attacked officers who were in the community to conduct enquiries, seized four service weapons and inflicted injuries on three officers.
The Upper West Regional Police Commander, DCOP Francis Yiribaare, led a reinforcement team to rescue the injured officers and restore order. All four stolen weapons were recovered, although two magazines are still outstanding as investigations continue.
Two of the injured officers were treated and discharged, while another officer who suffered a fractured arm has been referred to the Wa Regional Hospital for further medical attention.
The Regional Police Command has strongly condemned the attack, describing it as a heinous act against law enforcement officers. The Command assured the public that decisive measures are being taken to safeguard both officers and law-abiding residents. Residents of Saawie and nearby communities are urged to support investigators with information that could lead to the arrest of additional key suspects and the retrieval of remaining items.
