The Ghana Police Service has begun investigations into a viral video involving an American citizen, Arianna Naomi Mackey, who claimed she was kidnapped and robbed by five masked men she alleged to be police officers on snap-check duty in Accra.
In a press release issued on Tuesday, December 9, 2025, the CID explained that Ms. Mackey reported in the video that the men took an unspecified amount of money from her. Preliminary investigations revealed that the video was recorded in a hotel in Accra where she was lodging with two companions. Police confirmed that the group checked out of the hotel, and Ms. Mackey left the country on December 5, 2025.
According to the statement, investigators contacted Ms. Mackey to assist with the case, but she could not provide details, including the names of the alleged officers or the number plate of the vehicle used in the incident. She also mentioned that her Ghanaian friend who was with her during the alleged attack declined to be part of the investigation.
The Police added that Ms. Mackey has since deleted the video and has not responded to further attempts to reach her, including WhatsApp messages and calls. She later blocked the investigation team, the statement noted.
The Service indicated that efforts are ongoing to engage her through diplomatic channels to ensure the facts are established.
The Ghana Police Service assured the public that it takes such allegations seriously and remains committed to uncovering the truth behind the claim.
