The Ghana Federation of Disability Organisations (GFD), Oti Region branch, has petitioned Parliament through the Oti Regional Co-ordinating Council (ORCC) to fast-track the passage of the Legislative Instrument (L.I) for the Disability Act, 2006 (Act 715).
The petition, signed by GFD Oti Regional President, Mr. Emmanuel Donkor, highlights the urgent need to operationalise the Act, which aims to protect the rights of Persons with Disabilities (PWDs).
The L.I is crucial for ensuring that PWDs access education, healthcare, employment, and social services. Mr. Donkor emphasized that Parliament should prioritise this to improve PWDs’ lives in the Oti Region and Ghana.
ORCC Chief Director, Rev. Harry Nill Kwatei Owoo, received the petition and pledged to submit it to the Oti Regional Minister, Mr. John Kwadwo Gyapong, for onward transmission to Parliament.
Rev. Owoo assured GFD members that they would expedite action on the petition, saying, “We are committed to supporting this cause and ensuring PWDs’ voices are heard.”
The petition aims to protect PWDs’ rights and improve their lives in Ghana.
