Two people have died and five others injured after a head-on collision between a tanker and a Sprinter bus on the Accra–Kumasi Highway at Enyiresi on Thursday, December 18, 2025.
The accident involved a MAN Diesel tanker (GN 4550-19) carrying two people and a Sprinter bus (AW 732-13) with eight passengers. Authorities say the crash was caused when a tyre detached from the tanker, causing it to lose control and collide with the bus, which ended up beneath the vehicle. Two occupants of the tanker escaped unhurt, while the victims of the collision were treated at nearby hospitals.
The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) Anyinam Fire Station responded to a distress call at 20:38 and arrived at the scene seven minutes later. Firefighters retrieved one female victim deceased at the scene, while another victim later died at Enyiresi Government Hospital. Five others sustained injuries and received treatment at Enyiresi Government Hospital and Helpline Hospital, Anyinam, with one patient referred to St. Joseph Hospital, Koforidua.
Bunso Fire Station reinforced rescue operations at 21:11. The Sprinter bus was completely destroyed, while the tanker suffered partial damage to its front axle. Fire crews concluded the operation at 00:43 and returned to base at 00:50.
The GNFS commended the swift response of its teams and acknowledged support from the Ghana Police Service’s Motor Traffic and Transport Department (MTTD) and the Ghana Ambulance Service.
