The Accra Psychiatric Hospital has received a donation of essential items from Serene Insurance as part of the company’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) activities, aimed at supporting patient welfare and staff during the Christmas season.

The items presented included foodstuffs, toiletries, and a musical set made up of a keyboard, microphone, and combo for the hospital choir. The donation is intended to provide practical relief while also enhancing recreational and music therapy activities for patients at the facility.

The Accra Psychiatric Hospital currently provides care for more than 700 in-patients and about 3,000 out-patients living with various mental health conditions, including depression, schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, and substance abuse disorders. Hospital management says initiatives that combine medical treatment with psychological support and recreational activities are essential to holistic mental healthcare delivery.

Receiving the donation, Dr. Peggy Asiedu Ekremet, a psychiatrist at the hospital, expressed gratitude to Serene Insurance for what she described as consistent and timely support. She explained that many patients experience limited mobility, social isolation, and emotional challenges associated with prolonged hospitalization, making recreational interventions such as music therapy crucial to their mental wellbeing. According to her, the donation will help boost morale, encourage social interaction, and contribute to improved patient outcomes.

Chief Executive Officer of Serene Insurance, Ms. Mercy Naa Koshie Boampong, said the gesture forms part of a longstanding partnership with the Accra Psychiatric Hospital, with support extended on a quarterly basis in response to the hospital’s evolving needs. She noted that providing patients with both essential supplies and access to music creates joy, cheer, and a sense of community, particularly during the Christmas festivities.

The presentation ended with expressions of appreciation from hospital staff and patients, highlighting the positive impact of sustained corporate partnerships on healthcare delivery and the overall wellbeing of patients.
