The Governing Board of the Ghana Sports Fund was inaugurated Friday January 23, 2026. This marks a key step toward establishing a dedicated and transparent system to support Ghana’s sports sector.
The inauguration was announced by the Minister of Sports and Recreation, Kofi Adams on social media. It comes after years of calls from athletes, federations, and stakeholders for a structured framework to develop talent, fund programs, and ensure fair allocation of resources across all sports.
In a post on x, the Minister expressed gratitude to President John Dramani Mahama for his leadership and commitment to repositioning sport as a meaningful pillar of national development. “The establishment of the Sports Fund reflects a clear promise kept,” the Minister said.

The Fund aims to promote equity, strategic planning, and accountability in sports, providing opportunities at every level and fostering a sustainable future for Ghanaian sport.
The Minister wished the board members well as they take on the national responsibility, as he noted the significant trust placed in them to manage the Fund effectively.
“This is a step forward for Ghanaian sport,” the Minister added, concluding with the government’s resolve to support athletes and federations through structured funding and governance.
