Ghana’s High Commissioner to Nigeria, Mohammed Baba Jamal Ahmed, has defended his decision to contest the Ayawaso East NDC parliamentary primary, describing it as a response to a call to serve rather than a pursuit of political status.
Mr. Baba Jamal was among the aspirants who filed nomination forms at the Greater Accra Regional Headquarters of the NDC, as the party officially opened the race to select a candidate for the forthcoming by-election.
Addressing journalists after the filing process, he said his decision to leave his diplomatic post temporarily to contest the primary should not be viewed as a step down, but rather as an opportunity to contribute more directly to national and constituency development. He stressed that public service remains his primary motivation.
Mohammed Baba Jamal Ahmed is one of five aspirants expected to face vetting on January 28, 2026, as part of the NDC’s internal selection process ahead of the March 3 Ayawaso East by-election.
Party officials supervising the filing process have reiterated that all aspirants meet the basic requirements and that the party will support whoever emerges victorious from the primaries as it prepares for the electoral contest.
