Former MP for Assin Central, Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, cast his ballot Saturday, January 31, 2026, in the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) presidential primary at the Assin Central constituency in the Central Region.

Mr Agyapong is one of five contenders seeking the party’s presidential nomination, alongside former Vice-President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia; former Minister of Food and Agriculture Dr Bryan Acheampong; former Education Minister Dr Yaw Osei Adutwum, and former NPP General Secretary Kwabena Agyei Agyepong.

The NPP’s presidential primary will produce a winner only if a candidate secures more than 50 per cent of the valid votes cast.

If no candidate achieves this threshold, a run-off between the top two contenders will be held within 14 days.

A total of 211,849 delegates are expected to take part in the nationwide exercise, which is being conducted without biometric verification devices. Instead, two voter registers have been provided at polling centres to verify eligible delegates. Proxy voting is not permitted.

Voting is taking place at 333 polling centres across 276 constituencies nationwide, including a polling station at the party’s headquarters in Accra. Polls opened at 7:00am and are scheduled to close at 2:00pm.
