Former Vice-President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia has arrived at the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) national headquarters in Accra, as the party prepares to officially announce the outcome of its presidential primaries.
His arrival comes amid growing activity at the headquarters, with party executives, Members of Parliament, supporters and representatives of the various contenders gathering following the close of polls and the completion of vote collation by the party’s Electoral Committee.
Dr Bawumia is widely viewed as the leading candidate in the race, which featured five aspirants: former Assin Central MP Kennedy Agyapong; former Education Minister Dr Yaw Osei Adutwum; former Minister for Food and Agriculture Dr Bryan Acheampong; and former NPP General Secretary Kwabena Agyapong.
Security has been significantly reinforced at the premises as final arrangements are made for the declaration of results. Party officials have indicated that the announcement is expected shortly.
Sources within the NPP say the outcome points to strong nationwide support from delegates, a development that positions Dr Bawumia as the party’s flagbearer for the 2028 general elections.
The presidential primaries, a key component of the party’s internal democratic processes, were described by party leadership as largely calm and well organised.
Upon official confirmation of the results, Dr Bawumia is expected to address party supporters, calling for unity and setting out the party’s next steps as it shifts focus towards the 2028 elections.
