The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has appointed former Member of Parliament for Tamale CentraL, Inusah Fuseini, to replace Majority Leader and Bawku Central MP, Mahama Ayariga, on the committee investigating alleged vote-buying during the Ayawaso East parliamentary primaries.

The NDC General Secretary, Fiifi Fiavi Kwetey, announced the change in a Facebook post on Sunday, February 8, 2026, explaining that Mr Ayariga had stepped down from the committee.

Mr Kwetey said Mr Ayariga’s continued membership had become untenable following the public position taken by the Majority Caucus in Parliament on the matter.

According to him, the substitution is aimed at safeguarding the fairness and credibility of the committee’s work.

The Ayawaso East parliamentary primary, held on February 7, 2026, has been dogged by allegations that some delegates were induced with items including television sets and boiled eggs, raising claims of vote-buying.

In response, the NDC constituted a three-member committee chaired by former Information Minister Kofi Totobi Quakyi, with Mr Ayariga and legal practitioner Emefa Fugah as members, to investigate the allegations and make recommendations.

The committee is expected to submit its report by February 10, 2026.

Meanwhile, even before the committee completes its work, the Majority Caucus in Parliament has called for the immediate cancellation of the primary and the disqualification of candidates found to have engaged in vote-buying.
