President, John Dramani Mahama has announced that, he will cut sod for the construction of an airport in the Upper East Region soon, following a successful inspection of the site by aviation authorities.
“Soon, I will come and invite you all to go with me to the site to cut sod for the construction of the airport”, he said.
According to the President, the Ghana Airports Company Limited (GACL) confirmed the site’s suitability for the project, which is expected to enhance regional connectivity, boost tourism, and stimulate economic growth.
He further revealed, the project will be funded through the new airport infrastructure development levy approved by parliament.
“By courtesy of the Majority Leader and his Members of Parliament, they have approved the new airport infrastructure development levy so the airport will be funded out of that levy”, he noted while addressing the Upper East National House of Chiefs today.
The Upper East Regional Minister, Donatus Atanga, expressed optimism about the project’s commencement, hoping for a swift completion and commissioning.
