The Ghana Police Service has revealed a collaboration with government to introduce an automated programme for law enforcement on road traffic related issues known as Traffitech-GH is in the pipeline.

The Ghana Police Service in a statement released on February 25 indicated that, the service was working with stakeholders and some government agencies to engage parliament for an amendment on road traffic regulations that will enable the introduction of this automated law enforcement program.

“The Ghana Police Service in collaboration with stakeholders comprising the Ministry of Interior, Ministry of Transport, National Road Safety Authority, Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority, National Insurance Commission, and the Ministry of Finance, are in the process of engaging Parliament for the amendment of the road traffic regulations to enable roll out of an automated traffic law enforcement programme known as Traffictech-GH in the coming months.” A portion of the statement read

This comes amidst reports of an ongoing scamming activity, whereby the perpetrators notify individuals of violating traffic offences and request them to pay fines through text messages.

The Police Service wished to inform the general public that the notifications were false, fraudulent and not coming from the service.
