Some Concerned Youth of Ga, a community in the Wa West District of the Upper West Region, have denied allegations of special treatment in the distribution of development projects in the district to their area. Their reaction followed concerns raised by the Wechiau Youth Association that the area is benefiting unfairly at the expense of the Wa West District capital, Wechiau. Addressing the media in Ga, the leader of the group, Hafiz Timbile Adams, dismissed the allegations leveled against the community by their counterparts.
The Wechiau youth, in a news conference in the second week of February 2026, accused the Member of Parliament for Wa West, Peter Lanchene Toobu, and the District Chief Executive, Richard Wullo, of channeling development projects intended for the district capital towards the Ga area.
They claimed that both officials hail from that area and are attaching personal interest in the discharge of their duties, and mentioned the 24-Hour Market and TVET projects. In response to the proposed 24-hour economy market in Ponyentanga, the youth of Ga argued that the Ga Area Council remains the district’s commercial hub and top contributor to Internally Generated Funds (IGF) and deserves to host the project.
Mr. Hafiz Timbile Adams also touched on the TVET projects:
“With particular focus on the TVET and the proposed 24-hour economy market to be sited in Ga and Ponyentanga respectively, a major misconception that has sustained in the public domain is the existing community-initiated Wechiau SHTS, which is yet to be absorbed by the government, and the newly Technical and Vocational Institute to be constructed in Ga.”
“It is instructive to note that the two institutions are not the same; they differ in legal and policy foundation, funding process, administrative framework, and even institutional mandate. The two are independent, and the presence of one does not invalidate the other,” he noted.
The Wa West District Chief Executive, Richard Wulo, in response to the various groups, defended the distribution of projects, outlining projects such as CHIPS compounds, KG blocks, and Ghana Health Service blocks spread across different locations in the district, describing it as balanced growth in all parts of the district.
