Ghana’s President, John Dramani Mahama, says his administration, coming into office, met a crumbling economy, but he is resolved to stop at nothing to revive the economy.
President Mahama, delivering his second State of the Nation Address (SONA) on the floor of Parliament, Friday, February 27, 2026, reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to restoring Ghana’s economy, assuring citizens that the government remains determined to reverse current economic challenges and place the country back on a path of growth and development.
President Mahama, in his address, acknowledged the difficulties confronting the nation but stressed that his government is fully committed to delivering economic recovery and relief for Ghanaians.
He stated that from the beginning of his tenure, he had been transparent about the scale of the economic challenges facing the country, noting that recovery would require sustained effort and sacrifice.
“I was clear from the outset that recovery will not come easily, but I was equally clear that I will stop at nothing to turn this situation around and bring relief to Ghanaians,” President Mahama reiterated.
He added that his leadership experience in navigating past national challenges gives him confidence that the country can overcome its current difficulties.
“I promised that just as I have overcome challenges in the past, I will reset our economy and return us to a path of growth, progress, and development,” he stated.
The address forms part of the President’s constitutional duty to update Parliament and the nation on the state of affairs of the country while outlining policy priorities for the year ahead.
