President John Dramani Mahama has outlined major interventions in the electricity sector during the 2026 State of the Nation Address delivered in Parliament. Presenting the address in accordance with Article 67 of the 1992 Constitution, the President said government has taken firm steps to stabilise the power sector and end recurring outages.

He noted that measures introduced over the past year have improved electricity generation capacity and strengthened the national grid. According to him, strategic maintenance works on key power plants have reduced disruptions and increased efficiency.

President Mahama stated that reforms within the Electricity Company of Ghana are ongoing to improve revenue mobilisation and service delivery. He stressed that tackling financial challenges in the sector remains a top priority to ensure sustainable power supply.

The President further announced plans to expand renewable energy production, particularly solar power, to diversify the country’s energy mix and reduce dependence on thermal generation.

He assured Parliament and the nation that government remains committed to providing reliable and affordable electricity to support economic growth and improve the living conditions of Ghanaians.

The 2026 State of the Nation Address touched on key sectors of the economy, including energy, health, education and infrastructure, outlining government’s roadmap for national development.
