The Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection (MoGCSP) has provided emergency cash support to vulnerable households in Obogu, Ashanti Region, as part of efforts to expand coverage under the Livelihood Empowerment Against Poverty (LEAP) programme.

The intervention follows a recent visit to the community by the Minister for Gender, Children and Social Protection, Agnes Naa Momo Lartey, during which significant vulnerabilities among some households were identified.

Acting on concerns raised during the visit, the Ministry, through the LEAP Management Secretariat and the Social Protection Directorate, collaborated with the Asante Akim Municipal Assembly to validate household data using the Ghana Household Registry.

The exercise identified 134 households classified as poor, including persons with disabilities, orphans and vulnerable children, and elderly individuals without support.

Emergency cash support was subsequently disbursed to the affected households on Thursday, 26 February 2026, in line with programme guidelines. The Municipal Chief Executive, Maame Sarfoah Appiah, represented the Minister to ensure a smooth and transparent disbursement process.

Officials from the LEAP Management Secretariat and the Ministry monitored the exercise to ensure compliance with established procedures.

The support is expected to cushion beneficiary households against immediate hardship and strengthen their resilience through sustained social protection interventions.
