The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has cautioned the public, particularly young people, against engaging with individuals and networks associated with QNET and other similar schemes that promise overseas opportunities.

In a statement issued on March 13, 2026, the Ministry said it had observed a growing number of incidents where Ghanaian nationals are lured to travel abroad under false pretences.

According to the Ministry, victims are often persuaded with promises of employment, business opportunities, or assistance in securing European visas, only to find themselves in difficult situations once they travel.

“The Ministry has observed with concern the increasing incidents of Ghanaian nationals who are being lured to travel outside the country under false pretences, including promises of employment opportunities, business prospects, and assistance in securing European visas,” it said.

The statement noted that some victims have ended up stranded or detained abroad after falling for the schemes.

“These deceptive schemes have resulted in several victims being stranded, detained by foreign immigration authorities, or subjected to distressing and exploitative conditions abroad,” the Ministry added.

The Ministry therefore urged the public to exercise caution and verify all travel, recruitment and business offers through official channels before making any payments or travelling outside the country.

It also encouraged those who encounter suspicious recruitment activities or have been targeted by such schemes to contact the authorities immediately on consular@mfa.gov.gh/+233 204 552 750 or the relevant security and immigration authorities.

The Ministry also called on parents, guardians and community leaders to help raise awareness about the risks associated with such schemes and to report suspicious activities to authorities.

It reaffirmed its commitment to working with relevant national institutions to protect the welfare of Ghanaian citizens and clamp down on criminal networks exploiting unsuspecting individuals.
