President John Dramani Mahama used the 2026 Eid al-Fitr celebrations on Friday, March 20, at Independence Square in Accra to draw attention to the ongoing conflicts in the Middle East and their ripple effects on Ghana and the global economy.
He prayed to Allah to touch the hearts of US President Donald Trump and Middle Eastern leaders, urging them to seek dialogue and end hostilities. “May Allah touch the Trump and Middle East leaders to ensure this war comes to an end,” he said, stressing the human and economic toll of the conflict.
Linking international peace to national stability, President Mahama noted that disruptions abroad affect trade, food security, and economic growth in Ghana. He reminded citizens that safeguarding Ghana’s own peace and unity is essential in navigating global challenges.
While emphasizing prayers for international peace, he also reiterated the government’s commitment to ensuring that development reaches all parts of Ghana. “We keep making sure development reaches every part of the country. The government cannot do it alone; we need a partnership,” he said, highlighting the importance of citizen collaboration in national progress.
The President framed Eid as a moment not only of celebration but of reflection urging Ghanaians to uphold the values of compassion, tolerance, and service to their communities, even as global uncertainties continue to test nations worldwide.
This approach positioned the 2026 Eid celebrations as a platform to stress both Ghana’s internal cohesion and the importance of contributing to global peace through dialogue and cooperation.
