Construction has officially commenced on a state-of-the-art Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) Centre of Excellence in Salaga, marking a significant step toward transforming technical education and boosting economic development in the Savannah Region.
The project, spearheaded by the Commission for Technical and Vocational Education and Training (CTVET) under the Ministry of Education, is designed to equip young Ghanaians with practical, industry-relevant skills that meet the demands of the modern labour market.
The Member of Parliament for Salaga South Constituency, Zuwera Mohammed Ibrahimah, recently visited the construction site to assess the progress of work. During her visit, she expressed optimism about the project’s potential to transform the lives of young people in the constituency and beyond.
The project is expected to be completed in August 2026. Described as a “Centre of Excellence,” the facility will go beyond traditional classroom learning by focusing on competency-based training in key sectors such as Electrical Installation and Automation, Renewable Energy and Electronics, Automotive Technology and Autotronics, ICT and Food Processing, as well as Garment Making and Woodworking.
Hon Zuwera Mohammed Ibrahimah says the initiative represents a strong foundation for opportunity, empowerment, and national transformation, ensuring that graduates are not only job-ready but also capable of contributing meaningfully to Ghana’s industrialization agenda.
The project is being executed through a turnkey partnership between the Government of Ghana and De Lorenzo, a globally recognized Italian technical firm.
The collaboration covers the full scope of the project, including design, construction, and installation of advanced laboratory equipment. To guarantee sustainability, the project also includes comprehensive “Training of Trainers” programmes aimed at equipping local instructors with the expertise needed to operate and maintain the facility to international standards.
For the Savannah Region, which continues to face development challenges, the TVET Centre of Excellence is expected to play a crucial role in reducing youth unemployment and promoting sustainable economic growth.
The project has received strong backing from traditional authorities, local leadership in Salaga South, and the Ministry of Education, all of whom see it as a key investment in the future of Ghana’s workforce.
Meanwhile, the project consultant, Felix Boateng, indicated that the project will be completed within eight months.
He noted that work is currently about 25% complete and expressed confidence that it will be finalized and handed over between July and August 2026 to the Member of Parliament for Salaga South Constituency, Zuwera Mohammed Ibrahimah.
