The Minister of Sports and Recreation, Kofi Iddie Adams has revealed that not more than 800 members of the Ghana Supporters Union (GHANSU) will be taken to the World Cup 2026 tournament by government
Speaking in an interview on Channel One Tv on March 30,2026, the Sports Minister Kofi Adams indicated that this limitation was due to financial inadequacy
“Well the cost is quite high so we’re thinking about not doing more than 800, the supporters union are plenty we can’t take all of them, if we’re to send them based on our calculations even after the group stage, it will cost us(government) about 9,250$ per head” he said
He also added that government was not going to handle visa and feeding fees for any of the supporters
“Well they have to pay for the visa fee of course that should be their contribution, they also have to find something to feed themselves because I’ve made it very clear we’re not going to give anyone a feeding contract, a lot of people have come to the ministry(sports) looking for feeding contacts”
A World Cup 2026 fundraiser was launched on March 20,2026, to raise funds from citizens and Ghana Football sympathizers as part of moves to strengthen Blackstars endeavor in the tournament. Ghana in past tournaments normally handles expenditure of supporters to boost the morale of athletes and players.
