After five days filled with inspiring conversations, hands-on learning experiences and heartfelt connections, the Students’ Representative Council Gender Affairs Office at the UniMAC (University of Media, Arts and Communication), has wrapped up its unforgettable 2026 International Women’s Week celebration. If the energy was any indication, this event was truly one for the books.

Kicking off on Monday, March 23rd, the week began with a virtual launch featuring speakers from around the globe. Dr. Obaapanyin Oforiwah Adu, Registrar of UniMAC, set an empowering tone alongside Dr. Lawrencia Agyapong, Director for the Centre for Global Education and Collaboration, Dr. Isaac Tandoh, Dean of Students Student Affairs and Bridget Bonnie, Head of Information and Public Affairs, Ghana High Commission, UK. With the SRC Vice President Milday Orlanda Micaiah joining in, the stage was set for a week of inspiration.

The lineup was impressive, including a powerful panel discussion on women in media featuring broadcast journalist Regina Deladem Kevi, TV presenter Aimee Cherry and Lecturer Eva Kuupuolo. Students also participated in a hands-on skills day where they learned content creation techniques from Fahim Dumba and tried their hand at tie-dye with entrepreneur Maridiya a level 200 UniMAC IL student. Every session aimed not just to inspire but to equip participants with valuable skills.

One of the most talked about moments occurred on Thursday during the Mental Wealth and Wellness Day at the South Legon Campus Auditorium. With counselor Mr. Godfred Arko Osei and mental health advocate Ms. Josephine Ashia leading open discussions about burnout and achieving balance, students left feeling understood and empowered, reminded that true leadership doesn’t have to come at the expense of their well-being.
As the week drew to a close on Saturday, the atmosphere shifted to one of warmth and camaraderie during movie night at UniMAC-IFT. The final day was graced by Hon. Rita Naa Odoley Sowah, the Deputy Minister for Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs and Member for La Dade Kotopon Municipal Assembly. It wasn’t just a closing event; it was a chance for everyone to come together, share popcorn and reflect on the incredible journey they had experienced throughout the week.
This year’s Women’s Week was more than just a celebration, it was a powerful reminder of the strength found in sisterhood and community.
