he President, John Dramani Mahama says he will meet a government task force this week to receive its “concrete roadmap” for re-establishing Ghana’s new national airline, with the goal of seeing the country’s flag “fly proudly across Africa and in the global aviation space once again.”

The President made the disclosure today while speaking at the sod-cutting ceremony for a new interconnecting concourse between Terminal 2 and Terminal 3 at Kotoka International Airport (KIA) in Accra. According to him, the task force’s presentation will lay out technical, financial, and regulatory steps required to launch the airline.

“This week, I am also meeting the task force I set up to work towards the re-establishment of our national airline,” President Mahama said. “I am looking forward to receiving their presentation outlining the concrete roadmap for Ghana’s flag to fly proudly across Africa and in the global aviation space once again.”

The task force was established earlier by his administration to advise on ownership structure, financing, fleet acquisition, and regulatory requirements for a new flag carrier.

Ghana has been without a national airline since Ghana International Airlines ceased operations in 2010. Its predecessor, Ghana Airways, was liquidated in 2004 after 46 years of service. Successive governments have explored options for a new carrier, including public-private partnerships. Previous attempts stalled over funding, governance, and strategic partner selection.
