Dennis Miracles Aboagye, an aide to Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, has indicated that he will soon reveal alleged high-level involvement in illegal mining, commonly referred to as galamsey.
Speaking on Breakfast Daily on Wednesday, April 29, Miracles Aboagye stated that individuals with close ties to the current administration are actively involved in the illegal trade, heightening concerns about political complicity in the sector.
“I will, in the next few days, mention senior members, very top officials, who are close to this government and are actively operating in the galamsey space in this country. Our river bodies are dying; some are no longer flowing, and others have virtually come to a standstill, simply because of this government’s actions,” he said.
He also emphasised that his stance is based on first-hand observations, pointing to what he described as widespread impunity within the galamsey sector. According to him, the scale of operations and the apparent lack of enforcement point to a deeper systemic failure.
Miracles Aboagye further raised concerns about how excavators brought into the country are being handled, alleging that authorities have not taken decisive action. He rejected claims that the machines are being monitored, insisting instead that they have been returned to operators without proper accountability.
The NPP communicator also alleged that the government is prioritising financial gains from illegal mining over the country’s long-term interests, a claim likely to heighten political tensions around efforts to combat galamsey.
