Three killed, 20 injured in crash on Kumasi–Accra highway

Three people have died and 20 others sustained injuries following a road crash at Odumasi Ohene Nkwanta near Rider Steel and Iron Company along the Kumasi–Accra Highway in the early hours of Monday, May 11, 2026.

The collision involved a Mitsubishi Outlander with registration number DV G8180 and a Benz Sprinter minibus with registration number GE 6024-22.

This was contained in a statement issued by the Ashanti Regional Public Relations Officer on Monday.

According to the statement, emergency responders received a distress call at about 07:55hrs and quickly moved to the scene. Twelve victims had already been rescued by bystanders before the rescue team arrived, while eight others who were trapped in the vehicles were successfully rescued by the emergency crew.

The injured victims were transported to Hope Care Hospital, Asante Akim Central Municipal Hospital and RIS Hospital by Ambulance GV 589-20 and other vehicles for medical treatment.

Both vehicles were extensively damaged in the crash, while the cause of the accident remains under investigation.

The bodies of the deceased were retrieved and handed over to the Motor Traffic and Transport Department (MTTD) of the Ghana Police Service for further action.

The statement commended the rescue team led by LFM Tenkorang for their swift response and professionalism.
