The Member of Parliament for Biakoye, Jean-Marie Formadi, has called for intensified public education on antenatal care and improved access to healthcare services following the death of a pregnant woman.

Speaking on the floor of Parliament on Friday, May 22, Hon. Formadi described the incident as heartbreaking, noting that it was painful for a woman to lose her life while trying to bring forth life.

“It is sad to see a fellow woman lose her life because she wants to give life,” she stated.

She urged all stakeholders, including Members of Parliament, to join efforts in encouraging pregnant women to seek regular antenatal care throughout pregnancy.

She revealed that, some women may develop health complications such as hypertension during pregnancy, even if they had no prior medical history of the condition.

Hon. Formadi explained that regular medical check-ups during pregnancy could help health professionals diagnose complications early and provide timely treatment to prevent maternal deaths.

She also commended the government for its efforts to improve healthcare accessibility across the country, citing the construction of Community-based Health Planning and Services (CHPS) compounds in various communities.

She further praised the government’s “Mahama Care” initiative, saying it was aimed at strengthening healthcare delivery for Ghanaians.
