Jordan Ayew says Ghana have the quality to surprise people at the 2026 FIFA World Cup and believes the Black Stars can make a strong statement in North America.
The captain made the remarks ahead of the friendly against Wales, which will also be Carlos Queiroz’s first match in charge.
Ayew said the team wants to “put on a show” and represent Ghana and Africa well, adding that he is encouraged by the manager’s ideas and the squad’s commitment.
The Wales match kicks off at 18:45 GMT at the Cardiff City Stadium, with preparations continuing for the tournament.
Ghana will head to the World Cup for the fifth time, hoping to improve on group-stage exits in 2014 and 2022. Their last run beyond the group phase came in 2010, when they reached the quarter-finals.
The Black Stars will play Jamaica on June 10 in their final warm-up game before the tournament. They then begin their Group L campaign against Panama on June 17, before facing England on June 23 and Croatia on June 27.
