The family of former Zimbabwean leader Robert Mugabe has rejected proposals for the late liberation war hero to be buried at the country’s National Heroes Acre, but at a family shrine in keeping with his last wishes.

According to a government memo sent to diplomatic missions, Mugabe’s funeral will be held in Harare’s National Sports Stadium on Saturday, though it did not specify where the burial would be on Sunday.

According to a relative, President Mugabe, who died aged 95 in Singapore last Friday, does not want people behind his political downfall playing a role at his funeral.

A close family member told journalists that discussions between top government officials and the family to change Mr. Mugabe’s final resting place are underway.
