An International Relations Analyst, Nana Yaw Yeboah Mireku, says poor governance and economic challenges are primarily the triggers for the recurrent coups in the Sahel Region.
He therefore stressed the need to holistically look at the connection with francophone countries in Africa to comprehensively address the coups on the continent.
Mr. Mireku made the comments on GBC’s Current Affairs Programme ‘Talking Point‘, which discussed the coup and ECOWAS’ options to restore democracy in Niger.

He called on ECOWAS to prioritise strengthening its own foundation to effectively contribute to the stability of member states.
Defence and Security Analyst, Dr Prosper Nii Nortey Addo, said the uncertainty following the coup in Niger would undermine investment and development efforts as well as potentially disrupt stability in the subregion if not handled well.
A Representative of the Nigerien Democratic Movement for African Federation, Alhaji Ali Inusah, says what Nigeriens need now is peace and unity, not military intervention.
