The Ghanaian Times finds it unacceptable that some employers are abusing their employees in various forms to the extent of deliberately paying workers below the minimum wage fixed by the National Tripartite Committee. It says there are instances where employers’ subject workers to torture and other dehumanising treatment aside from refusing to pay their Social Security contributions. It is in the light of this, that the paper urges national institutions concerned to enforce the minimum wage legislation and ensure that workers in the informal sector are not taken for granted. The Times recommends sanctioning of employers who violate the legislation to serve as deterrent to others.
