President Mahama mourns Highlife legend Daddy Lumba

President John Dramani Mahama has paid tribute to Ghanaian music icon Charles Kwadwo Fosu, popularly known as Daddy Lumba, following news of his passing on Saturday, July 26, 2025.

The legendary highlife musician died at the age of 60 after a short illness, according to a statement released by DL FM.

In a heartfelt message, President Mahama expressed deep sorrow at the loss, describing Daddy Lumba as a “musical genius” whose work defined generations.

“I have learnt with deep sorrow the passing of Ghanaian music legend, Charles Kwadwo Fosu, affectionately known as Daddy Lumba,” Mr. Mahama said.

“Lumba’s unmatched musical genius provided the soundtrack to our lives, carrying us through various phases of life. The beats to his memorable songs may have died down, but his enduring legacy will echo through the ages.

On behalf of the Government of Ghana, I extend heartfelt condolences to his family and loved ones for this irreplaceable loss.”

Tributes have poured in from across the political, entertainment, and religious landscapes, with many celebrating the singer’s contributions to Ghanaian music and culture.

Former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, together with his wife Samira, extended their condolences to Daddy Lumba’s family, fans, and the nation at large, ending his tribute with the words: “LEGEND, REST WELL.”

Fans have also taken to social media to share their grief and favourite memories of the late musician, whose career spanned over three decades and produced countless hit songs such as “Aben Wo Ha,” “,Sika Asem” and “Yentie Obiaa.”

Plans for funeral arrangements are yet to be announced by the family.
