Nigeria’s leading female music superstar, Tiwa Savage is set to unveil her feature film ‘Water and Garri’ this year.
In a Twitter update, Tiwa Savage shared that the production of the film, named after her 2021 EP, spanned two years, describing it as one of her most adventurous and fulfilling endeavors.
The ‘Somebody’s Son’ hitmaker expressed her excitement about making her debut as a lead actor and executive producer of the film.
She mentioned, “I feel blessed and honoured not only to be making my debut as a lead actor but also to have executively produced this film. I honestly can’t wait to take you guys along with me on this next phase of my life and art… I’m just getting started.”

Although the release date was not disclosed, Tiwa Savage confirmed that ‘Water and Garri’ would be available on Amazon Prime. This marks her first venture into the movie industry, where she stars in the film and co-directs alongside Nigerian filmmaker Meji Alabi.
Tiwa Savage as executive producer
Tiwa Savage, as the executive producer, brought the movie to life through her company, Everything Savage.
She had nurtured the dream project for several years, describing it as a “complete labour of love.”

The film was produced in collaboration with Unbound Studios and its subsidiary, JM Films, with contributions from talent manager Vanessa Amadi-Ogbonna, Jimi Adesanya of Unbound Studios, and Meji Alabi, all serving as executive producers.
According to Screen Daily, ‘Water and Garri’ follows Tiwa’s character, Aisha, a US-based fashion designer, returning home to confront her guilt.
The film was shot in Cape Coast, Central Region, Ghana, and is a production of the African production company Unbound Studios and JM Films.
