Ghanaian Afro pop artiste Noella Wiyaala Nwadei, known under the stage name Wiyaala, has shared her unique spiritual journey, embracing her Christian, Muslim, and traditionalist roots. According to her, she is a Christian, Muslim, and a traditionalist.
Speaking on TV3’s ‘Afternoon Show’, Wiyaala revealed she was born to a Catholic mother and a Muslim father, and with her grandfather being a traditionalist, she was exposed to multiple faiths from a young age.
She recalled attending TI Ahmadiya, where she was known as Ali Fatima, and was also baptized as Noella in her mother’s Catholic tradition.
However, it’s her traditional heritage that truly resonates with her.
“I am more of a traditionalist because I have decided to follow the positive aspects of the traditional religion,” she noted on Tuesday, December 9, 2025..
Wiyaala’s grandfather, the traditional head, bestowed upon her the name Wiyaala, meaning “the doer.” She identifies strongly with traditional beliefs, believing they offer valuable lessons and are an integral part of her identity.
In her words, Christianity and Islam may be foreign religions, but traditional practices are inherently Ghanaian.
Wiyaala’s spiritual path is a testament to her openness and respect for diverse beliefs. She’s chosen to focus on the positive aspects of traditional religion, incorporating its teachings into her life. Her story highlights the beauty of cultural heritage and the importance of staying connected to one’s roots.
