For sometime now, Ghana’s Pesewa such as one pesewa, has not been on the money market.

Very soon the Bank of Ghana (BOG) would release upgraded cedi notes into the system. But the virtual absence of the Pesewa coin raises the question of its impact on the economy and what the Bank of Ghana should do to enable it to gain recognition on the money market, as is done the world over.

To economist, Professor John Gatsi, the Pesewa is no longer relevant. Professor Gatsi proposes using a cashless system to address the prevailing situation.
