She was hale and hearty when she left Accra for Lebanon. 11 months later, 28-year-old Latifa Mohammed is back home in a wheelchair. She is back in Ghana paralyzed. Latifa Mohammed attributes her inability to walk to an ulcer and a fibroid she developed in Lebanon coupled with the abuse meted out to her by her Lebanese mistress. Latifa was among the second batch of Ghanaian young women evacuated from Beirut to Accra which was facilitated by the MP for Assin Central, Mr Ken Ohene Agyapong, some well-meaning Ghanaians and the government. Three other ladies arrived back home feeling poorly. A lady who gave her name as Grace was not prepared to extend grace to the people in Lebanon when she also talked about the abuse meted out to her.
