13TH J.E.A MILLS ANNIV. COMMEMORATIVE LECTURE

At the 13th John Evans Atta Mills Anniversary Commemorative Lecture held in Accra, the Chief of Staff to the President and Chairman of the J.E.A Mills Anniversary Commemorative Lecture, Mr. Julius Debrah called on the youth to draw inspiration from the legacy of the astute leader and statesman, Professor John Evans Atta Mills. In an Address, Mr. Debrah urged the youth to champion the ideals and leadership, democratic discipline and moral integrity of the late President.

The theme for the 13th J.E.A Mills Anniversary Commemorative Lecture, “Atta Mills: A Case Study For The Fourth Republic” highlights the life and legacies of the late President on Ghana’s democratic journey. In his remarks, the Chief of Staff, Mr. Julius Debrah said the commemorative lecture serves as an opportunity to learn from a leader who has impacted the lives of many. Mr. Debrah noted that Ghana’s Fourth Republic has been shaped by leaders like Professor Mills Who believed in progress through peace and transformation through honesty.

The Chief of Staff emphasized that the lessons learnt from Mills’ journey must not remain as a nostalgia but as a roadmap for Ghana’s democratic renewal. “As we commemorate his life today, we must ignite a national consciousness among our youth to step forward – not just to inherit power but to earn the trust of the people by walking in Prof. Mills’ vision, honesty and humanity.” Mr. Debrah said.

Delivering the keynote address former EC Chair, madam Charlotte Osei described President Mills as “The Man, The Teacher and the President”- a portrait that touched both intellect and soul. Madam Charlotte Osei encouraged the youth to pursue excellence in their education and work and also charged leaders to invest in young people for national development.
A wreath-laying ceremony is scheduled for July 24, 2025, at the Asomdwe Park in Accra in honour of the late President. President John Evans Atta Mills died on July 24, 2012 at the 37 Military Hospital in Accra after a short illness.
Among dignitaries present at the event was the Vice President, Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang, political leaders, traditional rulers and NDC Party faithful.
