346 students of Tolon Senior High School in the Tolon District in the Northern Region have been displaced after the girls’ dormitory of the school was gutted.
The fire outbreak, which started at about 7:20 a.m. today, Monday, February 2, 2026 destroyed five dormitories located on the top floor of the building.
Three of the affected dormitories belong to Gbewaa House, while one each is from Furgurson and Tolon-Naa Houses.
The incident has caused extensive damage to the facility, which was already struggling with overcrowding, leaving hundreds of students stranded and without accommodation.
The Ghana National Fire Service responded promptly and succeeded in bringing the fire under control.
School authorities are yet to determine the cause of the fire and the full extent of damage caused by the incident.
Exactly five days ago, 900 female students of the Northern School of Business (NOBISCO) in the same region were also displaced similarly after a devastating fire gutted the school’s girls’ dormitory on Wednesday afternoon.
A cross-section of the populace is calling on the management of the Ghana Education Service to put in place measures to curtail such occurrences.
