The Director General of Ghana Broadcasting Corporation, (GBC) Prof. Amin Alhassan, is pushing for a dedicated ECOWAS TV channel to boost regional integration. The proposed ECOWAS channel aims to unite 300 million people, showcasing regional achievements and share information on ECOWAS activities.
The intention is to focus in areas such as Science, Technology, Innovations in the region, regional integration, and promoting West African values. The channel is not to get into competition with local stations but rather to intensify collaboration.

“An ECOWAS channel is long overdue,” he says, envisioning a platform for cultural exchange, regional news, and showcasing ECOWAS projects, by collaborating with local media to bring “ECOWAS of the people to life, one broadcast at a time.”
“When you have an ECOWAS channel you get to repeat content many times to consumers and use the same model to do a lot of cultural content in the sub-region so that people get to understand each other.” he said.
Prof. Amin Alhassan reiterated his vision for a dedicated ECOWAS TV channel during a meeting with ECOWAS Resident Representative, Ambassador Mohammed Lawan Gana. The discussion built on last year’s talks, focusing on media’s role in promoting ECOWAS activities and regional identity. “Media partnerships are key to strengthening public engagement,” Prof. Alhassan stressed.
Ambassador Lawan Gana praised GBC for shining a light on ECOWAS activities, saying their coverage earned him a SANKOFA PAN-AFRICAN HONOURS recognition for promoting peace and partnership.

The visit cemented GBC and ECOWAS’ shared goal: boosting regional integration through stronger media ties.
