The Deputy Minister for Communication, Digital Technology and Innovations, Mohammed Adams Sukparu (MP), has officially launched the Centre for Innovation Technology Skills and Entrepreneurship Training (CITSETT) at the Ghana Communication Technology University (GCTU), marking a major step in Ghana’s drive toward building a vibrant innovation and digital entrepreneurship ecosystem.

Speaking at the launch on Thursday, October 16, 2025, Sukparu reaffirmed the Ministry’s unwavering support for GCTU’s vision of becoming a regional hub for digital innovation, skills development, and entrepreneurship.

Describing the initiative as “lighting a big hope for students, innovators, the ecosystem, and the entire nation,” the Deputy Minister emphasized that CITSETT represents more than just an institutional milestone—it reflects Ghana’s determination to nurture talent, drive innovation, commercialize ideas, and compete globally.

He announced that the Ministry is backing three key priorities outlined by GCTU’s management:

 Enhancing the University’s digital infrastructure;

 Establishing a state-of-the-art cybersecurity laboratory; and

Advancing the University’s innovation and entrepreneurship agenda.

Sukparu outlined that the Ministry will continue to support GCTU through targeted investments in high-speed fiber connectivity, access to national data centers, expanded campus Wi-Fi, and cloud infrastructure. These interventions, he explained, are critical to aligning the university’s growth with Ghana’s broader National Digital Transformation Strategy, ensuring that GCTU becomes a “shining example of digital transformation on campus.”

Highlighting the growing importance of cyber resilience in a rapidly digitizing world, the Deputy Minister underscored the urgency of GCTU’s plan to build a cutting-edge cybersecurity laboratory. The facility, he said, will provide hands-on training in digital forensics, ethical hacking, penetration testing, threat intelligence, and real-world cyberattack simulations, equipping students with industry-ready skills and strengthening Ghana’s national cyber defense capacity.

He further commended GCTU’s leadership for envisioning a “Silicon Valley model” within Ghana—an ecosystem where innovation, entrepreneurship, academia, and industry collaborate to solve real-world problems and create sustainable jobs.

To ensure the Centre’s long-term success and sustainability, Hon. Sukparu announced four strategic measures being advanced by the Ministry:

Prioritizing infrastructure and cybersecurity support in upcoming budgets;

Strengthening collaborations between GCTU and national digital initiatives;

Leveraging programmes such as the Ghana Digital Acceleration Project (GDAP) for capacity building and institutional readiness; and

Implementing a sustainability plan to maintain the Centre’s operational viability and impact.

The CITSETT launch aligns with Ghana’s broader commitment to fostering digital innovation, inclusive growth, and youth empowerment, positioning GCTU as a central player in developing the next generation of tech-driven entrepreneurs and innovators.
