A Deputy Chairperson of the Electoral Commission, Samuel Tettey, says the EC has not been issued any directive from the Executive to discontinue the December 17 Referendum, meant to amend Article 55/3 of the 1992 constitution to allow political parties to sponsor candidates in elections at the lower levels of governance.

Speaking in an exclusive interview with GBC’s Rebecca Ekpe on the sidelines of an election 2020 Grant Partners Forum in Accra, Mr. Tettey said the EC is on track to deliver on its mandate to conduct the December 17 Referendum and the District Level Elections according to law.

He stated that it is very critical for the media to double check information to validate its authenticity before going external with the news.

Mr. Tettey cautioned that propaganda, misinformation and disinformation must be discouraged as Ghana inches towards 2020.
