The flood situation in the Upper East Region is said to have subsided marginally.
Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia has visited the area to ascertain the degree of damage to farmlands, houses, roads and water supply.
A Monitor of the disaster, Jack Sally an NGO, has been calling for emergency food supply, potable water, shelter and clothing for the affected people in Bawku, Zanlo and surrounding villages.
Executive Director, Jeremiah Seidu told GBC’s George Ankrah that the response must be treated as an emergency.
Mr. Seidu said Government is risking the lives of BECE Candidates who have to use canoes to access examination centers. He said it would have been better to airlift these future leaders to save their lives.
Meanwhile, residents of Nyimbale, a farming community in the Nadowli-Kaleo District of the Upper West Region, have been cut off from other Communities in the area. This is due to heavy rains in the region over the last two months.
The only route linking Nyimbale to the remaining communities is inundated with water.
Speaking to GBC’s Radio Ghana, residents say it has been an annual ritual for several decades. Appeals made to the authorities to construct a bridge over the river connecting the community to other places have yielded no result.
