GAWU organises workshop to build capacity of leaders, workers and farmers

The National Chairman of the General Agricultural Workers Union (GAWU), Edward Okoh Ampofo says the average yield of Cocoa in the country has improved significantly over the last three years.
He says the high yield is due to the impact of various Crop Enhancement Programs in the cocoa sector.
Mr Okoh Ampofo, was speaking at a workshop organised for leaders of GAWU in the Northern, Bono, Bono East and Ahafo Regions.
The workshop is aimed at building the capacity of the leaders to positively impact their colleague workers and Farmers.
The General Agricultural Workers Union of the Trade Union Congress is a registered legal Non Governmental Organization which seeks to defend the rights of workers, women and all fundamental human rights through consistent organization of workers in the formal and informal agricultural sector.
Speaking on the sidelines of the workshop, the National Chairman of GAWU Edward Okoh Ampofo said the periodic workshops for their leaders and members has been helpful.
Touching on child Labour in the Agricultural Sector, Mr Okoh Ampofo said stakeholders are working to achieve a “Child Labour Free Agriculture sector”.

He encouraged the youth to venture into agriculture.

The Deputy General Secretary of GAWU, Andrews Tagoe said the Union has over the years worked hard to strengthen the Agriculture Sector, particularly the welfare of members.

On Agricultural Exports, Mr. Tagoe said difficulties the US had with some Crops have been resolved.
