The Minister for Gender, Children and Social Protection, Dr. Agnes Naa Momo Lartey, has lauded ActionAid Ghana for its 35 years of impactful work in advancing social justice, gender equality, and poverty reduction in the country.
The anniversary celebration, held on Thursday, August 21, 2025, brought together government representatives, development partners, civil society organisations, and community leaders under the theme: “35 Years of Promoting Social Justice.”

Since its establishment in 1990, ActionAid Ghana has become a key player in amplifying the voices of women, girls, and vulnerable populations while driving systemic change to tackle poverty and inequality.
In her address, Dr. Lartey stressed that gender equality and social justice go beyond parity, calling for systems that create opportunities for all citizens. She highlighted government’s ongoing reforms and social protection initiatives, including:
Expansion of the Livelihood Empowerment Against Poverty (LEAP) programme.
Strengthening of the School Feeding Programme.
Implementation of the Affirmative Action Act.
Legislative frameworks to protect individuals accused of witchcraft.
Stronger child protection and family reintegration measures.
Stricter actions against trafficking and missing children.
Passage of the Persons with Disabilities Amendment Bill.
Dr. Lartey also commended ActionAid Ghana for its advocacy role in legislative reforms, advancement of women’s rights, and efforts to restore dignity to vulnerable groups.
“As we celebrate this historic moment, let us reaffirm our pledge to work together towards a more just and equitable society for all Ghanaians. Together, we will sustain our progress and accelerate it, ensuring that no Ghanaian is left behind,” she stated.
The event provided a platform for stakeholders to reflect on achievements, share lessons, and renew commitments toward building an inclusive and just Ghana.
