President of the Ghana Boxing Authority (GBA), Abraham Kotei Neequaye has officially tendered his resignation, attributing his decision to personal reasons. The announcement was made public early Wednesday, June 25, 2025 through a press release distributed by GBA Communications Director Mohammed Amin Lamptey via WhatsApp.

Neequaye described the resignation as a difficult but necessary step for himself and some executive board members committed to maintaining integrity during a critical period for the organisation. In the statement, Mr. Neequaye expressed deep regret over his departure from the leadership role, emphasising that stepping down was the most appropriate course of action at this time.

His resignation is set to take effect on Friday, June 27, 2025, following a press conference at the GBA Secretariat scheduled for 10:00 a.m., where he will formally confirm his exit and provide further details. Reflecting on his tenure, Neequaye conveyed gratitude for the opportunity to serve as GBA president, highlighting the valuable insights and experiences gained.

“I am incredibly grateful for the opportunities that I have been given as the GBA president. I actually value the insights that I have learned, and I expect them to help me in my future endeavours,” he said.

He also acknowledged facing challenging times, including episodes of harsh public criticism and character attacks. Neequaye took the opportunity to thank the media for their support during difficult periods, especially amid character assassination attempts against him and some board members. He emphasized that his role was entirely voluntary and unpaid, underscoring the sacrificial nature of his service to the sport and country.

“I want to thank fellow compatriots wherever you are for being supportive of my professional growth in an office that doesn’t pay salary or allowance but just a sacrificial work to serve others and one’s country,” he concluded.

The Ghana Boxing Authority has invited members of the media to attend Friday’s press briefing for official confirmation of the resignation and to address any questions regarding the future leadership of the organisation.
