The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has announced that the Embassy of Ghana in Washington, DC, United States, will reopen on Thursday, May 29, 2025, following a temporary closure for a comprehensive overhaul of its Information Technology (IT) systems and a review of operations.
The closure also followed a major shake-up at the Mission, which included the recall of Home-Based Staff and the suspension of local personnel.
A statement issued by the Ministry on Tuesday, May 27, 2025, indicated that a team of experienced diplomats, led by a senior officer from the Ministry has been deployed to restore operations at the Embassy. The team’s mandate includes ensuring accountability, implementing key structural reforms, and enhancing service delivery.
According to the Ministry, an IT team has already been deployed to reconfigure the Embassy’s website and payment systems, eliminating unauthorized platforms and boosting digital security.
The closure of the Embassy was attributed to what the Ministry described as “unfortunate circumstances,” which have been reported to the Auditor-General and Attorney-General for further investigation and action.
The Ministry assured the public that measures have been put in place to clear any backlog of services. It also expressed regret for any inconvenience caused by the temporary closure.
For prompt assistance, the Ministry provided the following contact details:
Email: washington@mfa.gov.gh / ipab@mfa.gov.gh
Phone: +1 202 686 4520 / +233 240 793 072
