President John Dramani Mahama has announced that he will appoint new Ministers for Defence and Environment, Science and Technology early next year after festive period. He made the statement during a meeting with Muslim leaders at the Jubilee House on Tuesday November 25, 2025, stressing that government is not rushing to fill the positions.

‎“I hear people saying I am going to appoint a new Defence Minister or a new Environment Minister. We are not in a hurry,We will do those appointments next year. After the Christmas and the New Year holidays, we will fill those positions”; he said.

‎The President explained that the two ministerial roles became vacant after the tragic deaths of Defence Minister Dr. Edward Omane Boamah and Environment Minister Dr. Murtala Muhammed. The two were among eight people who lost their lives in a helicopter crash earlier this year while on their way to a national assignment.

‎President Mahama asked the public to ignore growing speculation that new ministers would be named soon. He said the government was still recovering from the loss and would take its time to appoint the right people.

‎He encouraged Ghanaians to remain patient, adding that rumours about immediate appointments were misleading. “Those talking about someone being appointed tomorrow should relax. Go and enjoy Christmas, and after Christmas we will take a decision,” he added.

‎The President also used the meeting to thank the Muslim community for their continuous prayers and support, especially during the last election. He recalled the special prayers they offered for peace and stability and said their support had kept his administration focused and disciplined.

‎He assured the Muslim leaders that the government remained committed to honouring all promises made to their communities. He also praised their discipline and religious devotion, describing them as a model for the nation.

‎President Mahama concluded by reaffirming his government’s commitment to partnership, development and peace, promising that all outstanding appointments and programmes would be handled carefully and responsibly in the coming year.
