The 2025 World Hausa Day celebration in Accra turned into a vibrant showcase of culture, resilience, and history, spotlighting the Zongo and Hausa communities’ enduring role in Ghana’s nation-building.

The event brought together traditional leaders, Imams, youth, and policymakers, all united under the theme of strengthening cultural identity and promoting social cohesion.

Representing President John Dramani Mahama at the 2025 World Hausa Day celebration in Accra, the Minister for the Interior, Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak, underscored the vital role of the Zongo and Hausa communities in Ghana’s nation-building.

The Minister praised the communities’ resilience, unity, and rich cultural heritage, noting that Zongos have evolved from temporary caravan stops into thriving hubs of commerce, culture, and community life.

“Our Zongos have become centres of economic vitality, preserving cultural heritage and promoting social cohesion,” Hon. Muntaka said.

While acknowledging their contributions, the Minister also highlighted the challenges confronting the communities, particularly security concerns and the growing issue of substance abuse among the youth.

He stressed the importance of collective action, noting that government was strengthening security measures and rolling out rehabilitation programmes for those affected by drug abuse.

“Government is committed to supporting our Zongo and Hausa communities with policies that enhance security, combat social challenges, and amplify their immense contributions to Ghana’s development,” he assured.

Hon. Muntaka also appealed to parents, Imams, chiefs, and community leaders to reinforce positive values, guide the youth, and promote role models who inspire excellence.

He expressed gratitude to the Hausa community for their enduring contributions to Ghana’s progress and urged all Ghanaians to draw inspiration from the legacy of the Zongo spirit in building a safer, more prosperous future.
