A Volta River Aviation helicopter traveling from Accra to Kumasi was forced to make an emergency landing in Nkawkaw on Monday morning due to poor visibility caused by bad weather.
The Jet A-1 aircraft, with registration number 9G-AFW, landed near the Nkawkaw bypass in the Kwahu West Municipality of the Eastern Region. The pilot and crew members were reported safe.
According to sources, the incident occurred after harsh weather conditions made it unsafe to continue the journey. The aircraft remained grounded as the crew monitored weather updates before resuming the flight.
This comes just days after another helicopter, with registration number 9G-ADW, made an emergency landing at the Presby School Park in Ajumako Kokoben, also due to bad weather. That aircraft was carrying four passengers and landed in an open field to avoid safety risks.
These recent incidents follow a tragic military helicopter crash on August 6 in Adansi Akrofoum, Ashanti Region, which claimed the lives of Defence Minister Edward Omane Boamah, Environment Minister Murtala Mohammed, three government officials, and three crew members.
