The Labour Department has withdrawn the collective bargaining certificate of the Local Government Workers Union.

The Certificate was issued on 5th March, 2006.

A letter signed by the Acting Chief Labour Officer, said the decision followed a verification exercise conducted on the 25th of last month between the Civil and Local Government Service Staff Association of Ghana (CLOGSSAG) and the Local Government Workers Union of TUC.

The exercise showed that CLOGSSAG has more members and will be expected to lead all negotiations in the Local Government Service as provided for in the regulations.

CLOGSSAG however is under obligation to consult and where appropriate, invite the Local Government Workers Union to participate in negotiations.

For some time now, the two unions have been contesting the issue of who had the largest number of members with regard to staff of the Local Government Service.
